Why does McGraw Hill want me to “help guide the future of the Economics department”?

and give me a chance to win $500 for doing it? Oh, right, they sell textbooks. Is this crap common in other fields? Do Lit profs get emails from Scribners & Sons pushing them to add more Hemingway to their syllabi?
certainly true in the case of Introduction to Environmental Science textbooks which sell to the student for about 150$ even though all the material in those books is freely available

For the same reason someone wants to wire me money they recently came into, if only I will provide my bank account number…
I get almost as much spam from textbook reps as phone calls telling me my SSN has been suspended. The people at the other end of these two genres of calls have roughly the same moral integrity.
