11/8/2012: The faculty union has posted a new FAQ on membership and bargaining, here. I know many readers did not sign for unionization and are very skeptical of the union. I encourage those skeptics in particular to now sign membership cards and ensure their voices are heard within the union.…

It seems like a simple public records request: I am asking for any contracts or invoices for legal advice or consulting, legal or otherwise, relating to the faculty union, from 3/20/2012 to the present. 10 days, no response. 11/5/2012.
10/29/2012: Johnson Hall *really* doesn’t give a shit what the faculty think, so they simply opted out of the OUS survey on faculty satisfaction: And they honestly wonder why “their faculty colleagues” voted to unionize? Later in the docket for the Nov 1 meeting the issue of evaluations of university presidents comes…
3.5% 10/25/2012 update: The AAUO faculty union has posted an update on the bargaining process, here. Interestingly, the post includes this statement: In light of the misconception that the certification of our union has delayed or prevented the implementation of raises, our bargaining team also formally requested that the administration raise…
In March, during the union certification drive, I made a public records request for documents showing what law firms and consultants were advising Berdahl. I got these heavily redacted contracts and invoices. (Maybe a bit too heavily redacted, Randy?) No charge, though it did take a petition to Lane County…
Update: Now that it’s been established that there’s no legal basis to the claim that UO can’t implement parts 2 and 3 of the Lariviere salary plan, you might be wondering how much Gottfredson’s stubborn refusal to just do it is costing you, per month. I’ve now got the raw data…
10/12/2012: I’ve heard many reports of recent statements by Bean and Gottfredson that they can’t pay us the round 2 and 3 Lariviere raises because of the union. At the Head’s retreat, for example. Please post comments or email me about other stuff you’ve heard from admins on this, with…
by David Baez. Pretty informative, I thought. 10/11/2012.
Interesting post from Hannah Hoffman’s SJ State worker’s blog. 9/19/2012.
From a very good piece by Hannah Hoffman in the Statesman Journal (She also had a recent story on PERS, and is now running the excellent “State Worker’s Blog“). The boom is consistent with enrollment growth. So, how much of the hiring is new faculty? You could ask our clueless provost…
From the most recent meeting of the special legislative committee on independent university boards: Board Composition 2 Students, one undergraduate, one graduate (if appropriate) nominated by the relevant student organization(s) and appointed by the Governor. 2 faculty, one nominated by nominated by the faculty senate and one by the faculty…
That’s Wayne State, currently bargaining with its faculty union. Scott Jaschik in IHE: The faculty union at Wayne State University says that proposals made by the administration last week would effectively eliminate tenure protections any time the university wanted to make budgetary shifts. Under the proposal, “they can get rid…
at Western Washington University. From the Seattle Times: In a harshly worded letter to Western President Bruce Shepard, the governor criticized the university’s decision to raise salaries 5.25 percent this school year and 4.25 percent each of the following two years in addition to boosting department-chair stipends 15 percent. The…
6/27/2012: I wrote a while back about the economic department’s election of representatives to the union organizing committee. The OC rejected that idea, and came back with their own process. I followed it, and they have agreed to accept me as a member. In return I have agreed to abide…
Update: The union Organizing Committee currently has 32 members listed. 5 are from PoliSci, 4 from Romance Languages, 3 from Music. German and Scandinavian has 2, as do History, AEI, and PE and Rec. None of these people were elected by anyone. They are making lots of important decisions that…
