Dear CAS Faculty and Staff, On Wednesday, October 3rd, the College will host the first CAS Dean’s Reception of the new academic year. The theme of this reception is welcoming all new CAS faculty and staff, and celebrating those who are newly promoted and/or tenured. I know that the start of…
UO Matters
9/25/2012: Sorry, long post. The gist? If you want action at UO go to Pete DeFazio and your union – the latter is DeFazio’s advice. While Oregon’s public records law website says: Government transparency is vital to a healthy democracy. Public scrutiny helps ensure that government spends tax dollars wisely…
9/25/2012: The RG’s Diane Dietz digs into the student debt situation, with a focus on UO. Some tidbits: The prisons’ share is $1.36 billion in the current two-year budget, compared with the $691 million for the entire, seven-school Oregon University System. Not clear if that includes direct state aid to…
Suck it up, faculty. Press release here. No mention of the percentage of freshmen that are in-state, a politically charged percentage given the New Partnership proposals that the legislature will face this winter. I’m guessing this means it’s less than half. Word down at the faculty club is that Roger Thompson’s…
9/24/2012: The FAC’s charge is here: The Faculty Advisory Council shall be responsible for providing the President and other Administration officials with faculty opinion and counsel on the wide range of university affairs. This year’s co-chairs are Louise Bishop and Anne Laskaya. The FAC meets with the President and Provost…
From the Dayton Daily News. They don’t say how much they had to pay to get the records from the university and foundation. Last year UO would have released similar data free, but since this spring’s Hubin/Berdahl public records crackdown it would probably cost a curious reporter hundreds or thousands…
The legislative hearings did not go well. But the Oregonians For Higher Education Excellence PAC has a new donation from Lariviere fan Don Tykeson, almost $500,000 in cash on hand, and hasn’t spent s dollar to buy anything or anyone of note yet. 9/23/2012.
9/23/2012. Here’s an outline, suggestions welcome. Note that there are now two separate motions. Also see the comments and the discussion at http://pages.uoregon.edu/uosenate/dirsen/1_15_97mins.html for a previous Senate effort at this. 1) A motion to ensure faculty and Senate input into the hiring of executive administrators: The UO Senate requests that the UO administration…
Since apparently Gottfredson won’t do it, it seems that Wikipedia is in charge of Bean’s long overdue performance review. 9/22/2012: They must not have seen the furlough meeting video, which clearly establishes his notoriety:
Update: Bean’s now sent round a new email, proving that at least he can read UO Matters, or has someone on staff to sound out the big words for him. His hack job apologies are not as fun as Randy Geller’s, so I’m just putting it in the comments. FWIW, no…
Went down to buy a laptop. Dozens of happy parents and students and parents milling around, stocking up on tech stuff. Staff handling it all very professionally, and chatting up the parents too. Very nice.
today. He hasn’t got out of Johnson Hall much yet, so it will be interesting to hear what comes from this. 9/19/2012. 9/20/2012 update: Turns out he did not show and was not on the agenda. Jamie Moffitt stood in for Johnson Hall. Step up your game, secret sources.
9/21/2012 update: President Gottfredson and Provost Mullens’s double secret faculty salary improvement plan will let faculty pick up summer pay caddying for the boosters and JH administrators. Tips go into a startup money pool for new science hires. Personally, I don’t know what’s wrong with just using Hayward Field, it was…
9/19/2012 update: DeFazio gets results. I wonder if this means the UO Public Records Office is still going to refuse to give a public-interest fee waiver on the public records? Interesting post from Hannah Hoffman’s SJ State worker’s blog. 9/19/2012.
